boards.library README 08/Jun/2025

Introduction:

This library decodes manufacturer IDs and product IDs of Amiga autoconfig
hardware. So - in short - it'll show you what stuff there is inside your
machine and who made it. It's supported by other tools which provide
information about your system, like "WhichAmiga" by Harry Sintonen,
"Report+" by James Jacobs, "lspci" by Thomas Richter and last but not
least ShowConfig of AmigaOS3.1.4 and up (V46+).

Version information:

This release has been developed and tested on various Amiga hardware, both
real and emulated, but may contain bugs, crash your machine and frighten
your cat.

Please install identify.library by Richard Koerber, too! boards.library
will now query it when encountering unknown expansions and vice versa.

Your can fetch it from Aminet via:

http://aminet.net/util/libs/IdentifyUsr.lha

If you own a PCI busboard, you should also install the latest
openpci.library maintained by Thomas Richter. The older version by Benjamin
Vernoux is no longer distributed with boards.library.

You can find OpenPCI on Aminet at:

http://aminet.net/driver/other/openpci68k.lha

V3.122
- boards.library
+ a bug led to boards & identify.library playing ping pong with
unknown productIDs. Kindly reported by Thomas Klein and Gustavo
Sarmento. Fix provided by Richard Koerber. Thanks!

V3.120:
- boards.library
+ if boards.library encounters an unknown board or manufacturer, it
will now query identify.library by Richard Koerber (and vice versa).
This will ensure more regular updates (ehem...) and enable support
for identify.library in both showboards and AmigaOS3.2's ShowConfig
      utility.

      --- This requires identify.library V45+ - please update! ---

+ added ICY for Liberator by buggs and torsti76
+ added GottaGoFaZt3r by Matt Harlum (change by Richard Koerber)
+ added GottaGoFastRAM by Matt Harlum (change by Richard Koerber)
+ added GottaGoFastRAM2000 by Matt Harlum (change by Richard Koerber))
+ added GottaGoFaZt3r by Matt Harlum (change) by Richard Koerber))
+ added CIDER (Fast RAM), CIDER (IDE), CIDER (Registers) by Matt Harlum
      (done by Richard Koerber)
+ added Open Amiga Hardware repository
      (please visit https://oahr.github.io/oahr/index.html for info)
      (done by Richard Koerber)
    + added Z3660 RTG, Z3660 AutoConfig RAM & Z3660 SCSI Controller by
Juan Antonio Sanchez Segura (sHaNsHe), kindly provided
      by Salih "Kavanoz" Albayrak
    + added Millenium, Millenium II, Mystique 170/220, G100, G200,
G400/G450, G550 by Matrox. Thanks go to PainDictator for providing
an OpenPCI driver for these cards!
    + added new Mediator 1200/4000, Prometheus/Firestorm and G-Rex PCI
busboard entries for OpenPCI, now maintained by Thomas Richter

--- Please update to latest OpenPCI! ---

Developer information:

If you're developing a new piece of hardware for M68k-Amigas, please read
the according section of BoardsLib.guide (enclosed in the archive).

If you're a software developer and still use the 2.x release, you MUST check
out the modified API. The archive contains full developer documentation and
include-files for C and assembly language.

*Your help is needed*

Get your weirdest and latest expansion boards out of your storage boxes, run
showboards on your machine and give me your feedback every time you
encounter an unknown board or anything strange. And if you are/were a
developer of hardware yourself and know some details about you cards' serial
information encoding, let me know as well.

I also enjoy "showboards"-outputs of fully loaded machines or those
containing rare pieces of hardware. Yes, developers' needs can be quite
simple. ;-)
