MINIX is an UNIX-like operating system developed basically for educational
purposes. For all practical purposes, MINIX can be treated as if it were
in the public domain.
The Amiga version of Minix 1.5 runs on A500, A2000 and A3000 computers and
is compatible with 68000, 68010, 68020 and 68030 CPUs. Minix works fine
with one or more floppy disk drives, but the hard drive controllers A590,
A2091 and the A3000's onboard SCSI host are supported aswell.
NOTE: To get support for harddrives or make Minix run on the A3000 and/or
68030 CPUs, you have to install the Update to the latest version of Minix
aswell (see misc/os/Amiga_Minix_Update.tgz).
This archive contains the final distribution of Amiga Minix, v1.5.10:
amboot.lha - boot disk
Disk02 - Root File System
Disk03 - System Binaries #1 (/usr)
Disk04 - System Binaries #2
Disk05 - System Binaries #3
Disk06 - C Compiler
Disk07 - Operating System Sources
Disk08 - Commands Sources #1
Disk09 - Commands Sources #2
A patch to update an Amiga Minix 1.5.10 installation to 1.5.10.1 is
available separately as misc/os/Amiga_Minix_Update.tgz
Installation
------------
Step 1:
Prepare a 880K AmigaDOS disk, make sure it is labeled 'BOOT' and extract
the contents of amboot.lha to this disk.
Step 2 (using an Amiga):
Use CrossDOS (included with AmigaOS 2.x or higher) or disk/misc/fat95.lha
(requires AmigaOS 1.3 or higher) to prepare eight 720K MS-DOS disks. Then
write the eight disk images supplied in this archive (disk02 - disk09) to
these disks using disk/misc/YADI.lha.
Step 2 (using Windows):
Format eight DD (720K) Disks. Use RawWrite for Windows
(http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite) to write the eight disk images
supplied in this archive (disk02 - disk09) to these disks.
Step 3:
Reset your Amiga and boot from your Workbench disk or partition. Insert
the boot disk called 'BOOT' in any drive and open a CLI. If you're running
AmigaOS 1.3 or higher, type:
execute boot:scripts/minstall1.3
If you're running AmigaOS 1.2 or lower, type:
execute boot:scripts/minstall1.2
When the script has finished Amiga MINIX is ready to go. Leave the disk in
the disk drive and reset your Amiga to boot from the Minix boot disk.
Step 4:
You're now booting Amiga MINIX. From now on, follow the instructions on
screen.
